I know Christmas has been and gone and you're all probably completely over it by now but I just couldn't help sharing a few snippets of my festive holiday to Finland!
I've always loved Christmas more than any other holiday - as a kid it was because on Christmas Eve (the main day of celebration in Finland) I was always just the happiest kid around - nothing could get me down. We'd have our own little things we would do year in, year out, such as decorating giant heart shaped gingerbreads for every family member and eating rice porridge at midday - I've just always been a sucker for a good tradition.
As I grew older the magic of Christmas of course diminished a little bit but I do still love it. As an adult I can see (and sometimes feel!) the stress it induces in some people but I am still the number one fan of it all - I'm even getting pretty good at getting my presents early! This year I was actually done by the end of November - no one has time for Oxford Street two days before Christmas...
This year we didn't get the white Christmas I had hoped for but I can't complain - the weather was absolutely beautiful on Christmas Eve. We had a walk at sunset in the old town (and I of course forgot to take my camera, typical) after which we headed back to the house for ALL THE FOOD. I have to make a confession though - I am that weirdo who doesn't like Christmas food at all! That said I HAVE made my own Christmas Eve dinner tradition: ham, potatoes, peas & soy sauce. Gourmet, right? Who knew soy sauce could be so festive..
Sparkling wine time! Now that I can get on board with...
Oh, and my favourite Christmas song? Fairytale of New York, always, with this coming as a close second. Don't judge!
I hope everyone had a lovely festive period and are now looking forward to the coming year. I definitely intend to make it as amazing as I can!
