Of course, there are too many things to manage everything, but I like to tick off at least one "must do" activity each year. Last year it was finally going ice skating to one of the beautiful outdoor rinks of London, and so I'm hoping that this year too I will manage to tick off at least one of the things from the list below! Let's get on with it, shall we?
LITTLE FEAST, SHEPHERDS BUSH MARKET
Last year the lovely street food collective Little Feast celebrated Christmas by decorating Shepherds Bush Market into a Nordic Forest but this year they have gone a bit closer to home by coming back as a 'quirky English winter garden' - and I for one can't wait to visit! They have blankets, mulled cider (and wine!) and all the festive food you could wish for - and you can enjoy all of this in their covered and heated seating area (with blankets, of course!), what could be cosier? Can I go now?!
ARTISAN CHRISTMAS MARKET, DULWICH PICTURE GALLERY
If you haven't yet decided on all of the Christmas presents you need to get this year, I'd recommend paying a visit to the Artisan Christmas Market held in the grounds of Dulwich Picture Gallery. They have over 50 stalls spread over their beautiful grounds, all selling local handmade goods that would be perfect for a unique gift for that special someone. The market itself is completely free, but if you want, you can stay until later and pay a little extra for their special Winterlights festival where you can follow a beautiful light trail across the grounds whilst enjoying a steaming mug of mulled cider or hot chocolate.
FESTIVE AFTERNOON TEA @ THE CONNAUGHT
One of the most famous and luxurious hotels in London, The Connaught, is hosting a Christmas themed afternoon tea and I NEED TO GO. It's a bit pricey with tickets being £55 per head but with the surroundings being so luxurious (and I bet the food offerings aren't bad either!) I think it would be a really special afternoon. The price even includes a little Christmas gift and I'm already intrigued on what it might be..! Any guesses?
FINNISH CHRISTMAS MARKET
Of course I had to mention this one! The Finnish and Norwegian churches are holding a Nordic Christmas market each year at the end of November, and inside the Finnish church there is also a purely Finnish fair too. I'm not going to Finland for Christmas this year which means that getting all my Finnish Christmas goodies now is all the more important. If you have a spare moment this weekend, I would really recommend going and having a little wander - and make sure to try our version of mulled wine called 'glögi' too, it's wonderful!
CHRISTMAS MOVIE FROM THE BIG SCREEN
This is my fourth year spending the festive period in London and I'm ashamed to say I've still not gone to the cinema to see any of my favourite Christmas movies from the big screen! Every year I say I'll do it but then suddenly it's Christmas Eve and I realize that I just never booked it in... But not this year - no, this year I'm determined to at least go see the best Christmas movie ever, It's a Wonderful Life, from the big screen - even if I don't catch anything else! My dad introduced me to the movie years ago, and watching it just fills me with so much joy and Christmas spirit every time.
What Christmassy events are you most looking forward to? And more importantly, what's your favourite Christmas movie?!
