Small pleasures | Week 3

Getting excited about Christmas

I’m the biggest Christmas fan girl there is, and as soon as Halloween was officially over and November begun, I couldn’t hide my glee about all things festive any more. I can’t wait for the Christmas lights to be lit everywhere and to hopefully decorate our flat a bit more this year too. Maybe even a tree! I’ve also already put the Finnish Christmas market on my calendar (25-27th Nov, btw) and I can’t wait to stock up with ALL the Christmas treats from back home.

Trying out new foods: Mexicorn Salad

I’m not sure what it says about my week, but one of the things I was the most excited about was this salad by The Londoner. I skipped the feta and had it with veggie sausages instead to make it vegan and it was amazing. The salad dressing was tangy, fruity and spicy all at the same time, and I imagine it would work perfectly together with the salty feta (or even halloumi!) from the original recipe. I can’t wait to have this again!

Fireworks at Alexandra Palace

This is my 5th November living in London, but somehow I only managed to drag my butt to watch the firework display on Guy Fawkes night (well, 2 nights prior…) this year. I have no idea why I’ve waited for so long – it was amazing! We went to Alexandra Palace which also had a bonfire, a German beer festival and street food market (and so much more!) as well as the laser show and the fireworks display later on in the evening. We were so lucky and managed to find an amazing spot for watching the show and I didn’t find that there were too many people there at all (although maybe only when queuing for toilets or trying to get out afterwards…) and I’m 100% going back next year. Such an amazing experience!

Long weekend in Rome

I’m writing this from our hotel bed in Rome and so far have had the best experience. I forgot how ridiculously gorgeous Rome is – every street we turn to is yet another beauty. We still have 1.5 days to go and I intend to enjoy them to the fullest (and have as much pizza as is humanly possible) – and then come back as soon as possible!

  • Oh I remember going to Alexandra Palace about 5 years ago to see the fireworks with my (now to be husband) and my best friend it was so good we used to live in Woodgreen which was not too far. I don’t live in London anymore partner and I moved in the countryside (near Oxford) after living 18 years in London. Anyway I like that post .
