The Hare and Hounds is a lovely little (or, well, not so little actually – it’s quite spacious!) pub serving amazing vegetarian food in Brighton. With a menu ranging from little bites and sides to burgers and dirty fries, there is SO much to choose from. So much so, in fact, that I most definitely over-ordered when I went, just because I wanted to try as many things as I possibly could..! Whoops.
The pub is a very spacious and trendy space with its exposed brick walls, comfy booths (all named after cartoon characters such as Jessica Rabbit) and all the craft beer on tap you could possibly hope for. The pub also has a lovely little beer garden at the back which is a very welcome addition during this little heatwave we seem to be having at the moment!
Located in Brighton’s trendy Seven Dials area, the Hare and Hounds stands out with its large and (spoiler alert!) super tasty menu, cute decor and friendly staff – you couldn’t find a better place for lunch or dinner if you’re looking for somewhere with casual but yummy vegetarian food in Brighton. You can bring your omni friends here, too – there are lots for meat eaters to choose from as well.
Let’s step in…
The menu at Hare and Hounds is so great. It’s super varied, with the overriding theme being American style food such as nachos, burgers and different type of baskets like cajun jackfruit bites and falafel pops – basically, a LOT to choose from!
I mentioned earlier that I ordered a bit too much food, but can you blame me?! The menu has so much to choose from, and there are so many vegan and veggie options and I really just wanted to try as much as I could.
My boyfriend and I shared three things from the menu: the cajun jackfruit bites, a veggie nacho platter and halloumi fries with yoghurt and chimichurri sauce. All of these plates were quite big, and the price to size ratio was really good!
Me dreaming of all my food…
The halloumi fries – how dreamy do they look? I loved these, especially the chimichurri & yoghurt sauce which really complimented the saltiness of the halloumi.
The cajun jackfruit bites – these were my favourite! They were super crunchy, but still really nice and soft on the inside. The seasoning was tasty, but not too strong, and the chilli and lime coconut sauce they were served with was such a nice accompaniment, too.
Lastly, the nachos! These were good, but nothing too special or different to what I’ve had in a lot of other pubs. What I did love, though, was how well this dish went with the other foods: I loved dipping the halloumi fries and the jackfruit pops into the salsa and guacamole, as well as pairing the jalapenos with the other dishes to bring in a bit of extra spiciness!
Overall, I loved The Hare and Hounds and it’s definitely now one of my favourite pubs in Brighton! I can’t wait to go back and try ALL the other dishes, such as the vegan seitan steak sandwich and the bean nacho lasagne – YUM!
