One of the highlights of my recent trip to Genoa was our visit to Spianata Castelleto, a viewing platform overlooking the entire city. From the platform, the views are truly breathtaking, looking over the colourful rooftops of Genoa and the beautiful glistening sea.
It’s really easy to get to the Spianata Castelleto viewing platform as it’s not too far from the centre of Genoa – once you start ascending it probably takes about 10-15 minutes to get to the top. A little word of a warning though: if you haven’t exercised for a while (like me…) it can be pretty tough going at first to get all the way up, but I promise you – the views more than make it up in the end!
You can also take a lift up which will set you back for about €1, but I only realised this when I’d already reached the top… Typical! After doing some research later, I found out that the entrance to the lift can be found from Piazza della Meridana.
To get to the viewing platform you’ll have to walk through the beautiful old town (centro storico) which has lots of cafes and restaurants for you to make a pit stop at if you so wish. There are also quite a few restaurants at the Spianata Castelleto viewing platform itself, though none where you could directly admire the views from.
I hope you enjoy looking through my little photo diary – the views from Spianata Castelleto were truly amazing and I think it’s possibly the best place to see Genoa from. I’m so happy I managed to get so many photos as keepsakes!
The photos above are from our route through the old town towards the Spianata Castelleto. How cute is that umbrella street?!
Obligatory lemon gelato as fuel on our way to the top!
Let the ascending begin..!
We made it!
