Small pleasures | January 2019

Yummy brunch at The Set

The Set restaurant is somewhere I’ve wanted to visit forever as it’s located in the beautiful boutique hotel Artist’s Residence. Seeing as I won’t have a reason to stay in the hotel any time soon, I thought I could at least visit their gorgeous restaurant. And I’m so glad I did – not only is the decor beautiful, the brunch was so good too!

I had their Full Vegetarian which consisted of a fried egg, mushroom (though I opted not to have this), sourdough bread, slow roast tomato, homemade beans, spinach, avocado & halloumi. The homemade beans were especially yummy! I can’t wait to go back here soon.

Day trips to Lewes and Arundel

January was a good month for day trips! I did one to Lewes (see my guide to Lewes here) for the third time since moving to Brighton and if possible, loved it even more than before. I found new areas of the town I hadn’t been to before and so many amazing gems. It truly is a great place for a day or a weekend trip, especially for someone who is interested in history as there’s so much of it there!

I also visited Arundel (read my guide to Arundel here) which I also really loved, though didn’t have as much time to spend there in as I would have liked. Luckily it’s not too far which means I can go again soon! Like Lewes, it’s a beautiful and historic town with lots of cosy pubs, independent shops and yummy restaurants to choose from.

Taking part in the weekly Instagram challenge

One of my goals for 2019 is to try to be a bit more creative with photography and learn more about my camera and editing along the way. I’ve been meaning to take part in Instagram’s weekly hashtag project (where they give you a new theme every week) for a long time now, but just always forgot or made up excuses why it wasn’t for me.

Well, not anymore – I’ve already taken part in three different challenges this year and I’ve really enjoyed coming up with ideas for the photos. Can’t wait to see what the next few challenges are!

Anniversary celebration in London

Jim and I celebrated our fifth anniversary in January and had booked a room at the Flemings Hotel in Mayfair which was SO nice! I very rarely stay in luxurious hotels (I would rather spend my few pennies on food tbh) but every now and then it’s worth the extra saving, especially when it’s a special occasion like this. We found a deal for the hotel from the Secret Escapes website, so in the end, it wasn’t too bad after all.

We also had an amazing dinner at Chutney Mary, walked around beautiful Mayfair and lunched at Bonedaddies. It was such a wonderful weekend!

What are your favourite memories of January? I hope your year has got off to a good start!
